" It is one thing to make slanderous statements and another to support them " writes our contemporary referring to" tho Johnson case, We are prepared to support by evidence every statement that lias appeared in our columns on this subject, and wo have publicly called upon the Government and the Police Department for an enquiry into tho affair. Our contemporary has forced us to say more than would otherwise have been necessary by publishing, from time to time, statements which are utterly untrue and misleading. Credible witnesses aver that a member of our contemporary's staif heard distinctly tho abusive words spoken by tho Sergeant to Mrs Johnson and yet this person has the lioirible effrontery to still deny all knowledge of them. We can find some excuse for the Sergeant but we fail to discover 0110 for our contemporary.
