MYSTERIOUS DISAPPEARANCE.

■ On tho arrival of the s.s. Hotomaliana fi'om Lyttelton yesterday it ™ reported that Mr Maokilligan, manager of the Lyttelton branch of the Bank of ; Now:Zealand,- who was on his way to Auckland, had disappeared under rather strange circumstances. Mr Maokilligan occupied a cabin with a Mr Anderson, who saw him about 9.30 last night in the act °f Mr Anderson says, however; that Mr Mackilligau aid not got into his bunk, but only lay down upon it. _ Later on, (at. 2.30 a.m.) Mr Mackilligau, owihg : to the closeness of tho cabin, had gone on deck to enjoy a little fresh air or tako a bath, Mr Anderson did not see his fellow-passenger again, Ho thought, however, Mr Mackilligan's actions rather peculiar, and on awaking early this morning could find no sign of him, thiragh his watch and somo of his clothing were lying on the bed and about the cabin, Tho matter was reported to the ship's officers, and an active search was made, hut failed to elicit anything satisfactory, and the :taissing maii is still unaccounted for. Those on board are positive that ho could not have walked ashore on the vessel's arrival at.7.30 a.m;j without being seen.
