TENUI NOTES.

(From Our Otru Correspondent.)

Saturday last should have been a red-letter day in Tenui football annals, as a good game with Masterton had been anticipated. As soon as the match was on the tapis, wires were sont to distant playois and messengers had ridden post lwste to carry the good tidings to players who lire about seven miles away, but all to no purpose. As usiinl at the last moment, a wire was received from Masterton intimating the postponement of the match, Players representing Wliarcama who had come twenty-four miles to take part in the game (Fisher came from Akiteo -10 miles off) were woefully disappointed, and no doubt tho Masterton players' cars tingled on that Saturday afternoon, as players and spectators who had gone to such trouble to attend, talkedanytliinghut sweetly about them. Too bad Masterton! Had we received a wire on Friday it would have saved all trouble. "Put not your trust in Princes" used to bo an old saying, now we can say "put not your trust in: footballers," any way those belonging to the Masterton Club. A very successful practice match was played, however, considering tho slippery state of tho ground very fair form was shown by both sides. 'l'he road through the Black Swamp is in a very bad state, Mrs Stewart of Waitawhito was riding on horseback with her child when the horse stumbled in a hole and fell to the ground throwing its rider. The child was stunned and severely bruised, and for a time, it was thought the accident would terminate fatally, Mrs Stewart too lmd a very narrow escape.

There nre several small slips on road between Tenui and Grassendale.

The holes in the road near tho Wliarcama bridge should be tilled in nt the first opportunity, The residents are greatly indignant nt the collapse of tho approach to the Tenui bridge after spending some £l5O 011 it last year, Three large pieces of the piles about 4ft have been washed up by the Hoods, and deposited on settlers sections. Some aro thinking of calling an "indign atioit meeting" to enquire into the matter.
