The New South Wales Elections. ' Sydney, July 17, There is tremeiulous excitement in the city to-night over the elections. The Freetraders have carried the day in Sydney and suburbs. Of the 'ls returns already completed, the Freetrade candidates have secured 34 seats, Protectionists 6, and Labour Candidates 5. Sir Henry Parkes Ims been returned for St. Leonard's, Mr I). K. Wise for the Flinders division of Sydney, Mr G. H, llcid for the King division of Sydney, and Mr W, M'Millan for Bunvood. Mr Edmund Barton, formerly in the Dibbs Ministry as AttorneyGeneral, has been rejected for Handwick, also the Hon, F. J3. Suttor, Minister of Public Instruction, for Bathurst, Mr Daniel O'Connor for the Gipps division of Sydney, arid Sir Wm, P. Manning for the Phillip division of Sydney. Mr Sydney Smith, who was formerly a member of the Parkes Administration, replaces the Hon, F. B, Suttor, who is absent in Canada. Lnter, The Labour candidates only obtained five seats in the city and suburbs, although those wo generally regarded as their stronghold.

Keturns, however,from tlie country districts are increasing the strength of those who liavo signed the pledge of the Labour Electoral League, and up to tlicv present the League has obtained twelve seats, which, with independent Labour candidates, gives approximately 22 members.
