A Serious Difficulty,

Auckland, Tuesday. A serious difficulty has arisen between tho Commissioner of Taxes and tho Colonial Sugar Refining Company with regard to tho income tax assessment of the Company. Tho Commissioner in addition to tho ordinary incomo tax, desires to impose a tax on tho profit of tho Company accruing from the production of raw materials in Fiji. This tho Company declined to pay, and havo decided to close down the Auckland works if the demand mado by the Commissioner is insisted on. The works employ eighty men, who at a meeting held Inst night, resolved to approach tho Government on tho subject.
