',•% The audience was not'solarge as • y t, tho excellent programme warranted, ■ W the rough weather being doubtless :'v ; responsible for this. Tho programme ,-Xi. opened with a piano duet," Barbiere '"' ,>, de Seviglin," by Misses Feist and , Bunting, which was' played with > much feeling and expression, and called forth loud applause. We have seldom heard Mr W. Simms to .■;: such advantage, as in "An Even- "• '••/ song."There isin this song scope for jjj just such a voice as Mr Simms has, M and, as he seemed in pavticuhrly /M\ good voice, the general impression J M left was vciy pleasing. The Mnstct- / M ton Orchestra in tho overture "Li / )M\ Collier d'or," camo out to groat ad-/ vantage With a little mora tico together, these performers wauhjf do credit'.to tho -indsrcarfolent of W vory much larger town. MissCran ' followed with "When my Rover comes Again," with violin and 'cello accompanient, tho parts in tho chorus being taken by Miss Perry and Messrs' Boagoy and Ralph, MissCran sang with ranch feeling 1 and in the chorus, the effect was excellent. "TheWolf"byMi« Ralph is a song that one likes'better every > ' .' ! timoit is heard, aud as last night . he was accompanied by the Masterton Orchestra, it was really a treat 1 even for an epicure. In response to 1 a hearty oncore Mr Ralph gave the • last part of his song again, Master Elkins gave a violin solo " Swiss ' Air," ami although the piece was in J parts, rather difficult, his lingering ! thronghourt'ns-.vcry good.' 1 part-song " Come where- My'Jjovo 1 Lies Dreaming," by the Wesj loyan Quartotte Party, was very well | rendered, and elicited muchapplauso. . The Masterton Orchestra once more . appeared, this time with " Fair Maid 3 oE Perth," an overture, which " they dealt with in fine stylo, tho 1 string instruments particularly, s sounding to advantage in the hall, 1 which is somewhat small to admit t of brass instruments, the loud play. 0 ingof at least ono member of tho-% Orchestra being very notice. • able. " Scarlet Poppies," by 1 Miss C. Corbett, was very lf much appreciated, Miss Corbett's \, " voice, especially when'it assumes 0 the contralto quality, is ono of ex- '' cellent tone and piu'ity. Mr Lily 0 followed with "Marching," which S admirably suited his light baritone y voice. The clarionet solo by Mr lt Candy was a fine exhibition of music. 0 The solo he selected was " Carnival 0 do Venice," a piece which, in tho '° variations requires very quick and " accurate nngering, and Mr Candy did '•J it thorough justice. Ho received j ™ a hearty recall, and repeated tho last i> "part. Miss Perry was in very good -\ 11 voice, and in her song "Apart, re- ; | e ceived loud applause. Still, the slip was much mora tliaurctrieved by the spuifc and accuracy with which the remainder was sung. Mr Donald gayo a humorous-patlio-tic recitation entitled "Betsy and I are out." Mr Donald is to 'bo complimented on the way in whioli ho gave the selection. The programmo was brought to a close by the amusing part song "Singers' Quarrel," by the Quartette Party," which received a vigorous recall. The accompaniments wero played by Misses Bunting and Elkins, and Mr A, von Keisenberg. The management avo to be complimented on placing such l an excellent programmo before. the public, aud it is to bo hoped that financially last night's concert may be as successful to tlio Brigado Band as it was pleasaut.to those present, j
