Tho removal to 'Wellington of the head quarters of the Bank of New Zealand, (says tho Trade /faucw), together with that of the head office in tho Colony oE the National Hank, just about to be carried out, will bring the cliicf New Zealand offices of four of our banks to the one city. It is also reported that tho Bank of Now South Wales has in contemplation a move in the samo direction. It must obviously be of considerable convenience to the general management of tho banks to bo able to confer orally regarding matters of common interest instead of havintr to settle everything by correspondence. ,_A fortuno-teller at Canton having given out that the prevalent plagao in that city would die away with tlie approach of the spring solstice, the people of Canton, in order to deceive the gods of sickness, made the first day of the fourth moon (olh May) thoir New Year's Day, every ceremony by which tho day is celebrated bciiig gone through with exactitude. The" Mock Parliament," hold in connection mill the Mastevlon Mutual Improvement Society, last evening, was very largely attended. Colonel Eraser's appoiutment, and tlio Shop and Shop Assistants' Bill were discussed. Some remarkably good speeches wero made. A shoifc report appears in another column. Willi regard to wheat in Hie Argentine tlio i Buenos Ayres Standard of 22nd April has the following s—" Enormous quantities of wheat arc coming in from all purls of the country and the exports this year will probably be double that of last year when one million tons were shipped. There is great activity up the river Parana, where vessels are loading at nil ports. Wheat is at present changing hands atliosario and Colastine at 5'70 lo o'o dols. per 100 kilos, say £3 per ton of 22501b; the price will open the eyes of tlio people in Europe to (he cheap sort of wheat growing in Santa Fe."

, The Gollan Valley illicit still case against the Cameron Bros., has been dismissed, Mr Martin remarking Hint he did not intend to call forlhe defence. A still bad been found in the bush, and a track was found leading lo it but strange to say, no dray was found on (he Camerons' premises. How could he say that any of the Camerons were guilty of taking whiskey up the road any more than any of their neighbours f The property was presumedly a sheep farm, and the tank found might be used in conned ion with faun work. The only circumstance calling for explanation was Ihc quantity of sugar ordered, which in itself was somewhat suspicious. He did not think the evidence was sufficient to warrant a conviction, and accordingly the case would be dismissed; The following is from the interesting notes by " B,A ,L" in the N.Z. Times: "The House plunges into the Standing Orders. It picnics among the opposed orders, revels in thorn, rips up the whole question of free speech, goes deeply into (he rights of minorities, makes play with everything connected with the subject, and with other things as well, It lakes time, a good deal of time, The first striking result is that the closure clause is thrown out by a, large majority. But the friends of order do not dcsnsk-Jfr lleeve's fc.limit comes'tip, and there is a fresh ripping up of everything, lint the House is with the time limit, It remembers Mr Beeves' speech on the subject the oth?r day, which it found cogent and convincing; hit them between wind and water in fact. Education slicks lo the lime limit, and the House sticks to him. After the lime limit is passed, a unique thing in our Parliamentary history, the House gels into a merry mood-kicks up its heels, finds amusement and recreation agreeable. Sonic solid business is done, with much boisterous fun. A notable incident 'is supplied by Maslcrton, who has slept the sleep of the just through Ihc uproar and tlio dullness alike. Waking he hears the voice of his hereditary foe. " Wairarapa," he cries, as he leaps lo his feci. Ho lias not Iho remotest idea of what is before the House at this particular moment. No mailer, Wairarapa is before him, and at Wairarapa he' goes. The House grasps the situation, and roars uncontrollably, members rolling about in their scats. Maslcrton himself grasps the situation, with great good humour, and one more voice (a big one) is added (o the turmoil."
A largely attended meeting of. tho settlers in the Wainui-o-mala was held on Thursday afternoon, the object bcinj; the establishing of a creamery in connection with the N.Z. Dairy Farmers' Union. Mr D. H. lioberls, Secretary to (he Union, who was present, explained the advantages attending the factory system. A committee was appointed to canvass tho farmers of the district, and the milk of iIOO cows was promised, but it is probable that there will be very little dilb'ctilty in securing over 'IOO, Meetings of a iikonatuve are (0 be held in Foxlon and Levin, and flic settlers in l'arapiirauiuau arc bestirring themselves in the matter. One of the directors of the Union, Mr Wm. Udy, who has been visiting the Forty-Mile Bush, where two factories of the Union arc at present working, gives a favourable account of the progress of flic industry there, From ilio'encouraging promises of support, it is likely that other creameries will' be erected, when 200 shares have been subscribed and a promise of 250 cows received. for each creamery, which are the necessary initiatory conditions and terms imposed, The site for the central factory will probably be chosen at Pahiatua. The season commences early in September, and it is absolutely necessary therefore that arrangements should be made as soon as possible by farmers wishing to open factories in their districts.iu connection with the Union, Always on the 00k out for bargains.
