* Monthly Meeting. The usual monthly meeting of tho above body was held yesterday. Present Crs F. von Kedeu (Chairman), Jlaunseli, Eli Smith, C. E. Cockbum-Hood, D, Guild, MIXTTKS, The minutes of the previous meetwere rend and confirmed. A report on the Mount Baker Head, drawn up by Crs Smith and Guild was read. The Council decided that the report was informal and could not he dealt a quorum of the Committee wiOTbt present when the report was \ prepared. ■/ seaikiiitki: ui'KxsK. Messrs Wilton mid Graham applied for a slaughtering license, It was decided to grant tlielieenso subject to the reportsof tho inspector. LEAVE (IK AIISKNTK. Leave of absence was granted to Crs Groves and Stuckey, QfAIIIIY. ' John Anderson wrote applying for one day's wages for pitching tents beforen contract was begun, mid' Btnting that he had found a stone quarry at Tcnui. He asked flic Council for a bonus of £lO, consequent upon this discovery. Matter left in tho hands of the Engineer. MADMAN. G. Prince, wrote resigning hispost kas roadman under tic Council, and r ' J. King wrotc.nsking to be appointed under the Council. Decided to leave the matter in the liumls of the Engineer; ami that the resignation of Mr Prince be accepted. Ee k. havihsox. The report of the Committee recommended that the claims of Mr Davidson for compensation for an accident owing to faulty culvert be not entertained. It decided to adopt the report of the committee. FIXAXCE COMMITTEE. The report of the Finance Committee was read. On the motion of Cr Guild, it was decided toadopt the report. ACCIirXTS.

TKXUI lllllliCK, Cr Maunsell moved that he and the engineer should wait on Mr O'Connor with a view of purchasing part of his land through which the traffic now has to pass owing to the bad state of the Tenui Bridge.—Curried. Cock-burn-Hood, Maunsell, and Graves to the Committee appointed to enquire into this matter. • wiii:ki,.tvi:k hy-i,aws, Cr Maunsell remarked that he had learned thatthe carriersusing springbrakes were now in the habit of using draught horses, and loading the vehicle, until the body of the curt rested on the axle-bed, and thus practically rendering them springless. Tlicy frequently carried as much ns two tons as a load, The Chairman pointed out that this wojild mean an amendment of flic by-law, if it was found necessary to move in the matter. HKI'OIIT OK TIIK KXfiIXKKII. It was decided that the report of the Engineer superintending the Mount Baker Road contracts 1 and2 should be referred to the Committee set up to enquire into the matter. This concluded the business.
