GREYTOWN NOTES.

Wednesday. Sickness is very prevalent throughout the district just now, several cases being of a serious nature. Mr W. Brooks, of Kuratiwhiti, who was about only a few days ago, is, I regret to say, confined to his bed, suffering from an illness which is considered dangorous,
A slight but sharp shock ef earthquake was experienced here at 5,30 yesterday morning. The Greytown-Woodsido train yesterday afternoon was packed with Native passengers (about GO in all) who had travelled from Napier to be present at the tangi of the late Tamati Patarimu. The large number of Maori visitors from Napier helps to make the town hear quite a lively appearance this morning. The bus and express proprietors did a roaring trade, and they would like this sort of thing to occur more frequently, Tho whole of tlio visitors put up at tlio various hotels, They appear to be a tribe of real 'rangiteras, and, of course, require the best accommodation.
At a meeting of the Wesleyan Trust last Monday evening, it was decided to hold an Exhibition and conversazione, at Grcytown, on or about September 13th, with the dual object, of finally extinguishing the debt upon the Wesleyan Church, which has been such a hindrance to the progress of Church work for years past, and to put in a more satisfactory condition the whole finance of the Church in this dis> trict,
Tho Grcytown School Committee met last evening when the whole of tho members were present The usual accounts were passed for payment and a letter read from the Trust in reply to one from tho Secretary of the School n i-nnual grant stating that the rules should be observed re the expenditure of tho grant. The Committee think that now they have to adhere to the rule, it will leave too little margin for cleaning, etc. The GriSytown Debating Society meet to-morrow night, Another barber has commenced business here, in the person of Mr Dumbell. We can give Masterton a start in the "shaver" line!
