RACING IN THE WAIRARAPA.

Meeting at Featherston, A numbei of lcpiesenhtives of Wauaiapa Clubs met Messrs W 0 Williams and N Giacc (delegates to the Racing Contcicnce) at tho Oddfollows' Hall Fcatherston, on Friday morning. Besides tho delegates tlicro mm present Messrs J; Martin (representing tho Lowor Yalley J. C), a, T. P. Hutton arid P. Pcarco (Wairarapaß.O.),nnd W. McKemiio (Taratahi-Cnrlerton R. C). Apologies were received from Messrs A, G, Pilmer and A. M. Wilkinson. Mr. J. Martin was yoted <to the J chair.

Mr N. Graco oxplained that they had called tho meeting before the : Conference took place, for the purpose of listouing to the viows of representatives of country clubs'on tho various questions that wcro likely to be brought before the Conference, so as to act ns a guide for them. He was sorry the Clubs were so poorly represented, He had hoped to see someone there from the West Coast.-Mr Williams and himself would do their best in the interests of the country Clubs. '■:. Mr Martin hoped his position as Chairman would not preclude him from laying the views of bis Club before the delegates. (No, no!) The chief thing tho L.V.J.C required was that Boxing Day, which had been filched by the Mastorton-Opnki J.C. forsomeyears, should be secured to them without detriment. The claim of his Club to race on .Boxing Day could not bo questioned, and he would be glad if the representatives could do something to prevent the other Club racing on that day. MrHntton suggested that tho Conference should be asked to investigate tho'claims'of these Clubs to race on Boxing Day, and give it to the one most entitled to it. ■. Mr Martin thought that would

meet the case. Ho took it that the

poor attendance at the meeting that day meant that tho Clubs were perfectly satisfied to leave everything in tho bauds of their delegates.

Mr Grace said ho intended to move that no two race meetings be allowed

on the same day in a metropolitan district,

With reference to tho dispute between Lower Valley and Opnki, Mr Williams said the Club which bad the prior right should be entitled to race on Boxing Day, without the other Club interfering. It was a mistake to allow the use of tbetotalisator at two meetings in the same district on the one day. There were too many small meetings cropping up and an effort should be inado to stop them,

Several other matters wero discussed including tho definition of n hack, steeplcchasing and nomenclai ture, and the meeting adjourned.— Vlmrver.
