Tiik House of Eepresentatives lias condemned Bellamy's, and though sonic of our friends tried to hold the fort and defend their alcoholic privilege, we think that on tho whole the House is well rid of its" bar," The Legislative Council can, of course, nullify tho action taken by the House of Eepresentatives, but it will bo imwiso to take this responsibility as tho opinion of the Lowor House isin ' this instancchiidoubtcdlythcopinion of the country. The abolition of Bellamy will not guarantee the sobriety of members, nothing can do that, but it will remove an obvious temptation out of the way of certain weak-kneed men who have both now 'ami in the past discredited purlin, mentary institution, There has always been a small per centage of thirsty members unable to resist the temptation of stealing out of the House, taking a nip at Bellamy's and stealing back again, not much tho worso perhaps, but sometimes looking a little Hushed and excited. If Bellamy be abolished, these thirsty souls will have to go into the next street for a drink, and as a natural consequence will pay fewer visits to the cup that cheers and sometimes inebriates. The, 1 majority of members areiiiuloubtedly J men who can bp trusted' with a bar. on the promises; it is only a small l minority which succumbs to teiupta- M lion.
