OARING ROBBERY.
A Wellington Jewellers' Shop Ransacked.
One of tho most daring and sensational robberies everreportedtothepolicoin Wellington, if not in New Zealand, occurred at an early hour yesterday even l ing, tho prcmisos entered being those occupied by the Goldsmiths' Hall Company, situated at tho corner of Willis; street and Harbour-street. The proprietor, MrL, Plegeltaub, and his son, who acts as his assistant, left the premises about cviOp.ni. About 6.20 p.in. Mr Flegeltaub's son returned to-the shop and noticed that a largo quantity of articles was missing from the window facing Willis street, and on looking through tho other window into the' shop ho saw a large number of empty jewellery cases ranging along tho counter. Hoatoncocame to (ho conclusion that a robbery had token place, and attempted to open the door wi(h his koy. This, however, he was unable to do, but on giving a vigorous, push the door opened inamannor which showed it had been unlocked, Mr Flcgoltaub was at onco summoned, and a cursory examination of the premises proved conclusively thatarobbcry of a most complete and daring description had been committed The proprietor estimates his loss (says the Tmhm) nt something over £2OOO but the exact value of tho articles stolen cannot be ascertained until an inventory hasbconmadc. Ho .states that he has been exceedingly unfortunate of late, as just before coming to Wellington he lost £3OOO by a flood at Brisbane.
