From ■/ .loose play tho visitors took tho ball to Masterton twenty-fives, when, after a good rash by the forwards :' tho /ball went over tho line, H. Merewood scoring immediately underneath the bar, H. Nicolson . was .entrustedwith the kick, and \ .placed a pretty goal. This seemed to liven Carterton up, and they went : at it in real earnest, There was \aL. on 'y three minntes to play, but they Yellows an exceedingly . meii>yw}itoffhijp it lasted .having to play all tliejyknow to keep tlicm , from crossing tho lino again, How- ', ever,. tho whistle wont, leaving . Masterton victorious by 6 points (2 trios) to 5 points (1 goal), Father MoKonnn, as roforce, gave his decisions in a very'impartial manner, ■ and gave ovcry satisfaction to all .; concerned. Messrs Eaglo (Carterton) and Banganui (Masterton) were •line umpires, ■ ' 'I do not intend .to single out any ono for praiso, suflico to say that all played a good game, In tho first spell the Masterton men plnycd a splendid pafsinggame. Indeed itwas the best passing I have ever seen them do, and I cannot help thinking that Williams is generally responsible for tho change in tho style of play, although all tho men deserve credit for their unselfishness. The Carterton men although they had the worst of the gamoall the first spell, pkeked up in the second well, and with a bit more practice are sure to give tho best team tho Waiinrapa can produco a hard tussle. In the return to bo played at Carterton I ttKjJlpot bo surprised to see them come off victors. It is rather a pity that the game did not stnrt punctual to time, as the last ten minutes was ph,ycd in a very bad light, and tho players did not know sometimes where the ball was, kicking anywhere and everywhere, which is. rather dangerous to all concerned. Messrs Booth and D'Avcy captained the teams, and the match was played in a very friendly spirit, no rough play or wrangling being indulged in on either side.

The match between Grey town and Mastcvton on Stttuidny next should bo a highly interesting one, and as there is nothing special in Masterton, a large crowd intend going to Greytown from heie to witness it. If Greytown has the samo team that played on Saiurday, Mastorion will Lave to play all they know, to secure a victory,

. Tho protest of Groytown Club against To Oro Oro claiming tho match on tho ground that the latter team had not arrived on the field at tho specified timo, was then discussed at somo length. Mr Tully informed iS meeting that his team left Groytown, and arrived at Masterton at 3.15, wheu ho found that To Oro Oro had kicked off and claimed tho match. He attributed the dolay to the fact that the horses broke down on the way. Mr Pratt said ho had waited until a quarter past three, and, as ho could hear no tidings of the other team, at once called his men together, and found that they were unanimous in their determination to kick off and claim the match. After the meeting. had taken evidence as to the timo generally taken in the trip between Cfreytown and Masterton,- it was resolved ion tho motion of Mr Butonieut seconded by Mr Hansen (proxy for Fcathcrston) that Mr Tully's explanation he accepted; that the protest of the Groytown Club he upheld; and that the match bo played after the second round of the Senior Cup fixtures at Masterton,
