The applications for tlio Tauoru hotel; Club Hotel, Ifcathorston; and Whito Hart, Carterton; were ndjourncd for a week, Although tho Inspector's reports were nil favourable the Committee were not ■satisfied with the position in respect to mi anonymous communication sont to the police re Sunday trading nt the Taucru hotel, lienco tho reason for adjournment. At the same time thoy decided tluifc the proprietor could not in future have the Post Office on the promises. At the adjourned meeting plans for tho new building for the. Club Hotel, Featberston, have to be submitted and in the meantime a permit was granted till 30th inst. to sell in temporary premises. Tho adjournment of the application for the White Hart, Carterton, was made so that the Committee could satisfy themselves us to the refurnishing of the bouse by tbc applicant, Mr JJcrtie, who has purchased the hotel. , Mv Buckcridgc was instructed to improve his system of lire escapes. The telephone is allowed to remain fit the Blnirlogie Junction Hotel, Speaking tothcapplieantsgcucrally the Chairman said that nil lights would have to be kopt burning the statutory hours, and would have to be made to burn bright and clear. Five escapes would have to be provided as far us practicable, by outer ladders, and where those could not be applied,' the bedroom should be supplied with a ropo one inch in diameter and knotted. At the same time the Committee were agreed that knotted rope was of itself insufficient. The Committee desired it to be distinctly understood that (whilo not singling out anyone in particular) every license granted was on the understanding that the clauses of the Act of 1881 respecting Sunday trading, selling drink after hours'.and to drunken persons, would be strictly adhered to. They would reserve the right of determining any license where the hotel was improperly conducted, The applications of the W.F.C.A. and Mr Moriarty for wholesale licenses were granted, but that of Daviesand Harrison for ut bottle license was.refused. The Committee then adjourned till Tuesday next,
