Criminal Sittings, (By Telegraph.— Press Association). Wki.uxgtox, Tuesday Yesterday afternoon Martha Taliinui charged with forgery, was sentenced to six months' imprisonment. His Honor in sentencing the prisoner said she had been convicted of house-breaking when she was only 15, and that she had been convicted of larceny in 1892,1893 and 1894. It was very sad that a young woman like this should givo way to acts of this character. He was very sorry to sentence her, but he hoped'her husband would look after her when she was released from gaol,and keep her at the Native Reserve. William Albert Edwards was charged with having, on the 19th April at Palmerstou North, forged the name J, Levy to a cheque for £1 7s, The jury returned a verdict of not guilty, The jury wore thou discharged. The Grand Jury returned true bills in the following cases:—James Hackettand Priscillu Hackett, conspiring to defraud by means of spiritualistic seances ; James Eastwood and Thomas Eastwood, conspiring to defraud (" fish cement," cases); James Eastwood and Thomas Chattcrley, " fish cement," cases; John Street, larceny ; Christopher Lockyer, keep, ing a disorderly house; T. \Y, Twist, forgery; Cecil Murray, larceny; Lily Hansen, fortune-telling; Charles P. Manning, fortune-telling; ZingaLee, fortime.tclling;H. Harness, cheat; ing at play; George Anderson, defrauding Ms creditors'; Walter Charles Prior,forgery (four charges); Henry Tompkinson, larceny; J, Oakley, forgery and false pretences. _ The Grand Jury returned no bill in the case of Arthur McKee.chargcd with libelling D. Gain, J. Oakley pleaded guilty to the three charges preferred against him. His Honor ordered that ho should bo brought up at 10 o'clock this morning for sentence. Homy Tompkinson, charged with the larceny of a silver watch and chain, pleaded guilty, His Honorordcred accused tocomo up this morning for sentence, 1 Later, Canning (larceny) has been sentenced to nine months; Oakley (for forgery mid false pretences) to two fears; Tompkinson (larceny) nine iionths. All theso sentences include burd labor.
