ST. MATTHEW'S CHURCH.

Meeting of Parishioners, About fifty persons attended a ' meeting of Parishioners of St. Matthew's, Mastcrton, held in the Schoolroom last evening, to meet the Venerable Archdeacon Fimcoilrt, to discuss matters affecting the Church. The Secretary (Mr W. B. Chennoils), read the notice calling the meeting, after which Archdeacon Fancourt explained that the notice had been rather vague intentionally, as the meeting was intended to bo merely an infor.unl one to discuss the position of the (Jlmrch. The Venerable Archdeacon then I briefly reviewed the circumstances connected with the resignation of the Eev, W. E. Paige, and in touching ■ the question of finance expressed the | opinion that there should be no great I ■ • difficulty in raising the required | assessment of £250 per annum. On ; lookingover tho subscription list he was of opinion that the number of —"•■■•''"' subscribers might bo increased, and ■ would suggest that a bouse to bouse canvass of ty parish be made, and that a number of the lady members bo asked to assist the Vestry in the work, Mr Nrttuscli expressed the opinion that Masterton with its sound business position, should easily be able to raise the sum of £250 annually towards the support of the Church. He should move that the new vestry. be asketlto make a canvass, as suggested ,',. by the Chairman, and that the ladies be asked to assist, •Mr D. 11. Robinson seconded the '- motion, remarking that at the same timo he was of Opinion that to find ways and means at once would be a .-; little hard on the new vestry. ~ • ..The motion was carried without discussion. • It was also resolved to request 'f Messrs S.F.
