TENUI NOTES.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) On Saturday last a team representing the Tenui Football Club journeyed to Whakataki and played against the East Coast, Club. The match'was play oil in the paddock behind the Whakataki Hotel, the ground being far from good. Tho visitors woro unable to got their full Btrongth togothor, whilst the East Coast was more strongly rcpresontod than when thoy visited Tenui, The local team was captained' by F. Johnston, and tho visitors by J. Owen. J. Johnston, G, Johnston, and Stansfield scored tries for Whakataki, none of which were converted, and Jim Owen, registered a try for Tenui, his brother Norman placing the goal, thus leaving Whakataki victorious by nine points to five. The game was tho fastest that has been played in Tenui district. East Coast forwards are a strong lot and very good at heeling out. Had Tenui been represented by its best team tho match would have beenj harder fought. Those members who did not roll up to play, and whose place had to be filled by substitutes, should be told about it, and not picked to play until they give a satisfactory reason for not attending on Saturday, Itis useless for any Olub to expect to win a game against a strong Club unless its strongest players put in an appearance. Considering the weakness of their forwards Tenui did remarkably well. Jim Owon was the strongest back on the field, aud played a rattling game. He was wonderfully cool aud never made a mistake. He tool tho passes splendidly. The John stons played a grand game, Feutherston did not play half so selfishly as ho did at Tenui. They should make a splendid pair, E. Nicholls collared well, but he is on tho light side, The Camorons are good forwards, but Jim is a bit 6low, Bob Owen was very quick from behind the scrum, and collared splendidly, McLenuan, W. Harvey, and Grieg, played well. Tho Tenui forwards did not heel out enough, when they did Jim Owen scored. The visitors were most hospitably entertained at the Hotel. In the evening there was a smoke concert, which everyone enjoyed. Mr and Mrs Stuart looked after the catering in thoir usual liberal way. Songs were sung by Messrs F. Johnston, G. Johnston, Dumaresq, J, Owen, Green, and Beckor, and Mr Wilsone gave a step dance in a very efficient stylo.
