A Few Facts.

[to the editor w.d. Times,]

Sir,—ln reading your editorial on Thursday evening, it occurred to me that experience and the study of history had learnt me the following facts:— (1.) That a community whosemercantile system is tm/tmiferf, while its medium of exchange is botli limited and monopolised, is at the mercy of the monopolists. (2.) I That those who own the land practically own the people also. (3.) That the only escape from outlawry —for the many—is more abject take fc) imagine working men have no lu'gher ideal than wage slavery. (5.) That the man who takes advantage of his fellows' necessity to still further enrich himself is neither moral wjwt. (6.) Thattheaverage law-abiding citizen merely conforms to the law without troubling himself as to its morality—especially if privileged. (7.) That the dispossessed are beginning to see that their only'chance of acquiiinga share of tho common heritage is by rebellion (not necessarily"' armed rebellion). (8.) That life at present is a battle, as your robust visitor said, and that it is vain to look for a display of order, morality, honesty or justice, while greed, lust of power, envy and hatred, are raging in men's hearts. (9.) That men have learnt sonething of sociology, independent of Mr Beeves; and (10) that your attempt to saddle him with.the responsibility of the present depression is simply a political dodge. 1 am, etc,, REfaffi.
