TENUI NOTES.
(From Our Own Correspondent,) Wednesday, The close of last week was nearly fatal to our local blacksmith, Mr Armer, A contractor was felling some high gums near the hotel and opposite the smithy when one of them "jumped tho si\f" and nearly "jumped" the shop. The woodman had scarfed the tree to fall a particular way, when, just as it was fulling, a breeze sprang up, and it fell with a loud crash across the road, kinging the telegraph wires the ground and brushing the roof of the blacksmith shop, tho inmates just escaping. A relay of workmen under the superintendence of Mr Watson, lineman, soon cleared the trunk out of the road and traffic was resumed in a few hours. The Road Board lias metalled the road leading to the hotel, and it is a little better for traffic now, A load of metal has been shot down against the Post Office door and the public are ablo to get their letters without getting bogged. For two solid yearslmsmetalbcing lying near a very bad patch of road near Geange's,and the County Oouuci 1 does not seem inclined to have it put clown. The winter is upon us, and childrengoing to and returning from school are compelled to wade through the quagmlk AdancetHplace on Friday evening at the Miic Hall, In spito of the rain there was a goodattendance, and the dancers seemed to enjoy themselves thoroi^hly.
