MASTERTON OPERATIC SOCIETY.
The newly elected committee of tlio above Society met in Mr W, B. Cheniiells 1 office last evening, Dr. Douglas, Messrs A. R. Bminy, W, and J. Siimns, and B. A. Davys being present. Dr, Douglas ably filled the chair, and got through the business in a very short space of time, The appointment of Secretary fell to R. A. Davys, and that of Treasurer, to Mr C. M. Ballantyne, while the stage management was placed under Mr W. Simms' direction, the conductorship being given to Mr Geo. Gray, seiir. The rules of the Society were drawn up and approved of by the committee, and it was unanimously decided to take in hand Messrs Gilbert and Sullivan's favorite opera, " The Sorcerer," for the first production, the first rehearsal of which will be duly notified to all members. A committeo meeting will be held next week to make definite arrangements for rehearsals. After the customary vote to the chair, the meeting terminated shortly after 10 p.m.
