A Masterton gontleman who witnessed the Potone-Poneke heat on Saturday last, informs me that Hudson is not showing anything like tho form of last season,' The other : backs seomod to be jealous of his play, and he seldom has a show to shine. JlcKemsio, on the other hand, is playing better than ever.and he completely outrivalled any forward on the ground, The Petone team play a rough and selfish game, and aro not nearly as strong as was anticipated at the commencement of the season,

The football writer in the ■' -taenia]', commenting on the match between the Star and Greytown teams, says: —" I have no reuson to think that the Southerners could not defeat the I Stars when having a full muster of ' senior players, although the backi division of the Stars appears to ho equal to any in the field this season, but their strength in this portion is absorbed by the weakness of their forwards." While allowing for the absence from the forwards of Pearsc and McKillop, I think it would be hard to tind a more compact or fastor set of men in any team in the Valley, and although Greytown were certainly strong in this division, the Stars were equal in every point on Saturday,
