Masterton Operatic Society.

General Meeting. A largely attended meeting of members and intending members of the newly formed Mastodon Operatic Society wbb held in St. Matthew's Sohoolroom last evening. Dr Douglas, who was voted to the chair, commented on the rapid progrefs and hearty support accorded to the new Society, which appeared to have a prosperous career before it,

The election of officers was then i proceeded with, and resulted as fol-lows:-President —Mr W. H. Beethani ; Vice-Presidents—Dra W, H. Hosking and W. Butement, Mesars W. Lowes, W. G. Beard, M. Cnselberg and Rev. Father J, McKeuna; Management Committee —Dr Douglas, Messrs W. and J. Simme, A, B, Bunny and T, Hutchison; Ladies Committee— Mrs W. Buttment, Mrs T. Hutchison, Mrs Tabntenu, Mrs Simnis and Misß Vallance. The offices of Secretary and Treasurer were not filled, being left in the hands of the new committees. It was resolved that the annual subscription be, gentlemen 10s and ] ladies ss, honorary members the same, entitling to two tickets for each opera produced. Other unimportant business was transacted and the meeting terminated with the usual vote of thanks to the chair.
