A Booond fifteen of tlie Rod Star Olub were sent to Greytown on Saturday to try .conclusions with the local Olubf anTBUTOed a defeat by eight points to nil. It is only fair t'o say that the local team was strengthened by nearly half the senior team, and our boys were outmatched from the outset, although thoy played a fine plucky game. Muguiro and Maoahster played for tho Stars to make up tho team,"but did not at any time shine very conpiouously against their own men. Buchanan and E, Welsh Bcored tries for Greytown, ouo of which was contorted by H, Udy. Buchanan played, a grand game for the winners, making a brilliant run from half way, and scoring a wellearned try, fl. Udy, Welsh* Hornbrow and Raisen also did excellent work. For the Stars, D'Arcy, Bute- > ment, Hoar, and Jeffries played a BmuUnMape, and it was chiolly efforts that the score Tully handled 'Tie whistle very impartially, and Olliver and Nicol acted as lina umpires.
The Masterton first fifteen won their match against Carterton by eight points to three, after a well contested and even game, A good match was expected on Saturday between the first teams of the Greytown and Red Star Glubg,and a large number of enthusiasts wewon the Oval eager for the fray. Disappointment Was caused, however, by a wire being received about three o'clock ,_' to the effect that Greytown could not muster a team for the journey, It is a bad omen for the success of a Club when they fall to meet their engagement, and on any account word should have beeu forwarded earlier in the day, The second Siars,who visited Greytown, weru considerably Weakened by players being retained to assist the first, and the Greytown cannot be very enthusiastic season, or they An excellent praotice was held by tho Star fifteen and several outsiders on the Oval, and the ground being in the pink of conditioo, a fust and furious game was witnessed. The Mastorton second also had a good muster on tho Worksop Road ground, some new men showing up remarkably well.
Mr J. Tucker, of Mastr-rlon, has kindly presented a iirst-class football for competition between the teams of the Wairarapa Union this year,
Lorrimer, a representative player for flelson, has joined tho Orieulal Club, in Wellington, and the Rugby Union has called upon him to explain why he is playing for a junior club.
A statement of charges against the Wellington representative team which visited Neb on last season has been received, and will bo enquired into at the next meeting of the New Zealand Onion, Borne rather severe charges are made against individual members i —.. The New South Wales Rugby Onion have decided that the premier club in each of their competitions shall be awarded fifteen medals of a value of not Icbp than oi.e guinea each.
" Forward" in the Otago Witness, Writes:—" At the beginning of las' season a great" song" was made by the N.Z. Union aboutthe busy season that affiliated unions would have in playing each other. What happened! Waitarapa could not raise a team to visit Wellington, and the Auckland Union make mention in the annual report of " the absence of visits from foreign teams." It is to be hoped Wairarapa will endeavor to cast oft' the Blur by paying their promised visits this season.
The adjourned match between Grey town and Star first is now fixed for Saturday next on the Park Oval, and i hope another disappointment will not be caused,
The contests for the Junior Cup of tbe Wairarapa Union commenced last season on and that was considered none too soon for tho number of teams engaged. It is time the Union drew the fixtures, if they wish to end tbe season in proper time,
