MASTERTON WESLEYAN CHURCH.
Sixp&intj Concert The first of this season's series of fortnightly entertainments in connection with the Maaterton Wesleyan' Church,.was held in the Schoolroom last evening, and proved most successful and enjoyable. The Rev. J. Dukes occupied the chair, and in his opening remarks explained that owing to several ot tbo performers wishing to attend the Athletic Society's social, the original programme had to be slightly altered.
Mr and Miss Bennington opened tho entertainment with a piano fajfa. which was very uicely were contributed bf Messrs -Ralph and Simms »nd the Misses Gran and Perry, Other vooal pieces were given by the choir, all of which were ren* dercd in first-class style, and received hearty applause. Tho mnsioal items were contributed by Miss Galloway (violin), and Messrs T. Gray (trombone) and Bennington (cornot), eaob. performer doing justice to tho several pieces, the music being much appre* tinted,
The Rev. Mr Dukes, in the courseof his remarks, said they believed in starting their young poople'to work as aoon as possible. Judging'from the very creditable performance's of Miss Olive Dellwood and Master Bertie Donald, we think it an excellent idea. I During the evening recitations were given in first-class style by %E. A. Davys and Mr L,Donald, and a piano solo by Miss Butler. The Mnsterton Orchestra contributed lately to the wening's enjoyment, and received a unanimous encore for their selection. All the accompaniments were played by Miss Williams in excellent style.
