Presentation to Captain D. Pickering.
The memberß of the Mastertoa Municipal Fire Brigade assembled last night at the station for l lie purpose of presenting Captain Pickering with a silver-plated Hetiopoliiun Helmet, as |an expression of - and as a recognition of.mfßteli| .-■■••' qualities. - \ Lieutenant Ewington called upon Treasurer Baumber to make the presentation. Tho latter said itgave him much pleasure to perform suoh a pleas • iog task, and hoped (Japt. Pickering would aocepithegifii from the members- ~~*~- of thd brigade as, a mark of esteem and us a well-deserved present, Capt. Pickering replied that it was a very pleasant surprise, and be felt unable to express bis gratitude for such a , hundsome and useful present. So far from deserving it, be considered that be bad only done his duty as on officer, and it had at all timoß been a ' pleasure to him to do so. In the future he would always lake an interest in the Brigade, whether as an officer or a fireman, -wßWain ' again sincerely thanked theSHßPe^ for their kindness $ amidst loud cbeera.
