FEATHERSTON NOTES.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) Tuesday. Tho assault cnao of O'lMe v. A Martin was dismissed after hearing voluminous evidence train both sides, and in the case of Scarle v. Council the B.M. gave a nonsuit against the plaintiff with costs, Tho case of Police v. Hessiter is to oomo on next Court day, as the summons had not been served.
Great indignation is felt at the behaviour of the Rev, Mr Grace, who on Sunday oyening at the conclusion of tho service reprimanded tha choir upon their singing before the whole congregation, and proceeded to give them lessons The elder members of the choir have expressed themselves very keenly on the subject, and certainly it would have been better for tho incumbent to have attended thei* choir practices, and then have taknn them to task instead of upbraiding them be f ore the congregation, One member felt it so much at the time that he got up and left the church. ■
I am pleased to he able to inform you that in future the S.M. Court is to ba held in the Oddfellows' Hall, where it was held yesterday. It is much more convenient in every way; there is more room for tho counsel, the public and there are even desks for the fourth estate. What is more, there is a fireplace, in which a cheerful fire was burning yesterday, thus making it much more comfortable for tho S.fJ, than the other Hall,
It was time too that some place should be definitely fixed upon till wo get our Courthouse, for yesterday morning—as usual-several persons made for St. George's Hall, amongst which wore a coutisol, some witnesses, and a plaintiff and defondant in one case, none finding out about the change till the Court was opened and had commenced in the Oddfellows' Hall.
During the hearing of a oase on Monday, the S.M. asked a witness: '" When id a man drunk ?" and tho witness replied: " When he can't stand.''
Some of those who believe in putting up formidable looking notices with •■ Trespassers will be prosecuted " will be sorry to hear that, during a case yesterday, the S.M. said he looked upon all such notices as mere" fudge."
The poor ducks will have received " fits" from early morn, as nearly all who can handle a gtm have gone down to tho Lako to try their luck.
Sheep continue to go from here, Fifteen trucks went down this morning for tho Gear Company and Export Company.
