SUDDEN DEATH AT MASTERTON.
\Constable Cushion Succumbs.
A well-known figiwe in Masletton, and one of the fciw Zealand Police Fm6e, passed away rather suddenly on Sunday morningum the person of Constable Martin Casbion at the comparatively early age of 64. It' appears that for eighteen months past he had been suffering from internal pains, and latterly libb been under.treatment for heart disease and lung trouble. Although at times he-was really unfit for duty, be manfully refused to give in and never missed a duty. On Saturday afternoon I ast he complained of feeling rather worse than usually, liut was able to get on dnty till after mid-night. ing his l)ome-he-rflJM]r^;orff^!i^w r and at four o'clock- pasecd calmly away in the presence of his family.
Deceased seemed to be aware that his end was approaching, and quite calmly informed his wife, a little while before be died, that he did not think ho should last half an hour
He was a native of King's County, Ireland, and as a young man served about two years in' the Dublin Metropolitan .Police, He came to Now Zealand in 1865, and at once joined the H.Z. Polico Force, being stationed at various place? on the West Coast, in which district he continued until about four years ago when after a few months duty in Wellington, he was transferred to Masterton. He was a man of considerable intelligence and kindly disposition, and his sudden end will be sincerely regretted by all who knew him.
