Wairarapa Daily Times. [ESTABLISHED 1878.] THURSDAY, APRIL 19, 1894. THE WAIRARAPA AND EAST COAST PASTORAL ASSOCIATION.

We published yesterday the annual report of this Association, whioh claims "unprecedented" progress during the period whioh it covers, While we can congratulate the Association on increasing its subscriptions during the past year by forty pounds and its entry fees by sixty pounds; these are the outward and visible signs of its advancement; the "'unprecedented" progress was really made in the previous year when there was an increase, of one hundredand eighty-eight pounds under the item donations, However, it is indisputable that the Association is flourishing, and compared with a few years ago its condition is sturdy. We are not altogether surprised at the little crow with which the annual report opend, The position of the Society is now really very strong, Its annual income is about a thousand pounds, Of this amount the largest third is required for general expenses, a slightly (mailer third is available for prizes and a substantial but somewhat undersized third remains for reducing debt and for improvement, As the main improvements to the Show Ground are practically completed, with ordinary luck, the Society ought soon to be in a position to augment the money which at has been hitherto accustomed to spend in prizes. The Society still has a debt of some £6OO hanging over its head, but this liability is represented by recent improvements to the Show Ground of 8 reproductive character, and is unlikely to be an embarrassment to it in i(s present advanced condition, An Association which retains the service of Mr W. C, Buchanan as President, and Mr E, W. Dorset as Secretary, is bound to make headway.
