CORPORAL PUNISHMENT IN SCHOOLS.
[lO THE EDITOR, W,D. TIMES,] | Sir,—Withreference to your recent leader, 1 wish to say that when a teacher I kept a log of all punish* ment, though not instructed to do bo, It had columns for "nature ofpunishment," "reason," and "effect." I made a fixed rule never to slap, tweak, push, or annoy a child withoutreoording it, Hence, you may conclude, I never after a few days did so tweak, slap, or assault, any child, I found this log extremely useful in beaps of ways. It is really no trouble, And just think how it confines a teacher to legitimate modes of torture, lam, etc,, W. F. Howiett, Makaretu, 7th April, 1894.
