Featherston Road Board.

Monthly Meeting, The monthly meeting of 'the Featherston. ftoad Board took place on Saturday. Present; Wardens Matthews (Chairman), Douald, M'Lood, Harris, Nix, and Evans. Aooounts amounting to £721 10s were passed for payment. Correspondence was received as follows :

Prom H. Morrison it site of road by his place.-Left in hands of Overseer and Engineer. J. Kllapp re the cleaning of the drain in Ward's Line.—Resolved that the Overseer and Engineer inspect the matter.

. J. O'Connor re Patterson Eoad and the drain from theMaroa.-flesolved that tho matter stand over till next meeting, meanwhile tho Engineer and Surveyor will look into the matter.

J. Cameron re roads through his property.—Kesolved that Warden of that district see Mr Cameron.

P.'A. Thompson re road to Mr Martin's farm.—Resolved that the Land Department be written on the subject, aslo n road to Mr Dougloss and Pahau.—Besolved that Mr Dougloss be written to on the subject as well as Mr Thompson. From Mr Walters and Mr Thomp. son ;c roadsbed,—EeHOlved that the Secretary write to Mr Douglas asking hira whether he wishes for the road to go to Pahau or theKokotau bridge, and whether he wants to pay his rates to the T&ratahi-Carterton Road Board or to this Board,

From Ooleman Philips- re the widening of the bridge at the Heiffer Station.—Besolye that the Engineer examine the bridge and report on its safety as at present, From David Dick re crosmng to drain by his place.—Eeßolyed that the Overseer and Engineer see Mr ,Diok.

The following tenders for the cleaning out of tho drains in Ward's Line and Murphy's Lino were opened, Ward's Line drain:—One and fourpence per chain (two cleanings) J. Wyett; first cleaning Bd, second cleaning Bd, 212 chains, A. E, Jewellj first cleaning Is Gd per chain, second cleaning Is per cDain, \V. E, Dockery ; Is 8d per chain according to specifications, P. F. Eobans,

Murphy's Line Drain:—ls per chain, W.H. Dockery; Is 8d per chain, E. Hoskin ; Is Gd per chain, F, Aahbv, Wyett and Jewell tendered the samp for tho Ward's Line drain, the Chairman drawing lots, tbesuccessful tenderer being J. Wyett. The successful tonderer for the cleaning of the drain on Murphy's Line wasVV, H. Dockory, of Greytown. A report of work? done showed that the Eimutaka Eoad and Fahau Road had been repaired, also culverts repaired which were smashed by the traction engine, and gorso grubbed from roads.—lt was resolved that (ho railway ' authorities attention bo called to the spreading of gorse by Pigeon Bush, The Engineer was also instructed to see the gorse was kept down,

Ee Traction Engines;-The Secretary suggested that the owners of traction engines bo asked to lot the Wardens know when they damage any of the bridges or culverts.

The Chairman was of opinion tbat| action should be taken against t||o owners of the big engine if it broke! through any of the culverts,'thereby! testing the legality of their action. The Board depided tha' they will hold owners responsible for any damage caused through their breaking through any of the culverts, unless tho Board be notified immediately of any damage done. The Secrotary, reported that Wardens Nix, Matthews and Hume retire m May, but are eligible for re-election. . The annual meeting was fixed for noon on May 7th, and will be followed immediately by the ratepayers' meeting. Resolved that the engineer see to the deepening of tbe drain in front of Kaiwaiwai. It was resolved that a rate of fd in the £ be made on all rateable property in the Featheraton district, the rate to be payable on May Tth; also that a special meeting take place on 25th inst., at 3 p.m., to confirm this rate. It was resolved that the collector be instructed to tako immediate action for the recovery of rates after the expiry of the necessary fourteen days' notice. • j
