FOOTBALL.
[By Damocles]
Footballers rolled •up woll on baturday, and au excellent practice game was played oc the Park Oval. .The Stars were represented well, and individually showed great form. The Masterton Ulub also had a good many players on the ground, and conaidering that it was their first turn out played remarkably well. In Stewart, Norton, and Mowlem, the latter club have a new trio of rattling men, who w.ll be beard of during Jfccoming .football season, .^^
It is hard to say as yet what tha ultimate strength of the .local teams wll be, but their first, matches ought to give one a k\t(mti. By present appearances the Mlatertou Unb will be very strong both in forward and back division, whilst the Stars will bo stronger, if anything, in forwards, thaa previously, hut weaker behind the scrum. The latter Club, have certainly more young material to. choose from, and may again surprise football enthusiasts. The second nfteen of the Stars will, as usual, be a tough crowd, and with a share of luck should again be well to thefora in the Junior Cup contest.
An excellent suggestion emanating rom a writer in tliofltow, should be discussed on its merits atthe coming Union Meeting. The idea is to play for a championship in lieu of the usual onp, and present fifteen, ■' medals or suitable pendants fop th& winning team. This for the semoc only, as at present some worthy first players refuse to tackle anvjhgrTbufc second fifteen matches, jEfmm- 1 going idea would Hade eL, man endeavor to gcin a pl ftC o itt a senioc team. > ' ' ', The Stars are endeavouring to arrangfl.a match with either iGreytowttor Oartertoa for next SftWday week. ,;Th'e PahUtua Club Hold their wiinal : meeting tbw eveWy^/'

While thus far unanimous, and in complete aooordaoce with the resolutions of the delegates at last year's meeting, the Commulee feel, under all the circumstances, that the question must now be deoided by the delegates themselves.
