' -~x 5 minutes, ' / 7 '.''' Tho minutes of last quarterly meet- i ing and a special meeting were read and confirmed. « . vj. TREASURER'S BEPORT. The Treasurer's report read to the meeting showed a credit balanoe at date of £l6 l's Bd, banker's ruport. The Park Ranger reported that the .Park was becoming too much the resort of drunkards and loafers, also that considerable damage had .been done to seats, fencing, etc., and that several of the trees required lopping. The Chairman thought the best plan would be to instructthjuaoimr to give any person in charge Ifetwmight find drunk or giiilty of improper conduct, He, would'tttifljigrfl Mr Ingram be instructed o tawf action and report at ot.ee all such cases to the police. Mr Peist seoonded and the motion was carried. The Chairman expressed the opinion that the Ranger should visit the Park a little more often. The gate was always getting broken and the fenoing knocked down, Mr Feist thought it scandalous the way in whioh the seats were damaged. Mr Renall moved that Mr Ingram bo empowered to cut the undergrowth on trees in the Park where required, to a height of three feetCarried.
THE ATIILEXIO CMJB, The Chairman said the {Secretary had called hia attention to the faot that the A.A. and C. Club wished ta ' obtain a rebate on the' oharge made for using the Park Oval, on the ' ground that the Olub had expended money on permanent improyements to the Oval. For his part he should be prepared to grant something in the way of a subsidy if application ' had been made, but as no was before them, the matter would' have to stand over. - THE PABK TBUBT.
•With reference to the question of handing the Park over to the Town Landfi Inistoeß, the Cb&irmin said tbat as it would be as well if they went into the question of .the Park Trust's receipts and how their money had been Bpent. A s the Town Lands Trustees met on Friday evening, it would be well to have something definite to place before them'. A question has been raised as to the which have been received by the Park Trustees from the Town Lands Trust and the Borough Council during the past sixteen years, and how they had been expended. He found the total contributed by the Town Lands Trust to be £695, and by the Borough Counoil £2lO, making altogether £936. It was easy to show what had been done with the money. First there was the re-payment of the £4OO borrowed in 1877, then interest on that loon cost £429. ' Besides these two items £214 was paid for tree planting, £2OB for labour, £lB6 for fencing, £BS for re» pairs, and £l2B for oval. These items alone tutallefflpl to over £ISOO. During the past few years the Park Trustees had devoted the whole of their resources to the repayment of tl\e £4OO loan, and if the Town Lands Trust continued the aid it had so liberally given in the past, substantial improvements could bo undertaken. Ho did not consider himself that the Park Trustees wore justified in making a further appeal to the Town Lands Trust till the expiration of Ibo year, which closed on the 31st iust. Still he wbb glad tbat Mr Bunny broke the ica for them by waiting on that body. If the Town Lands Trustees could givo them fifty .pounds a year, they could spend the whole of that sum on improvements of a permanent oharacter, and probably obtain substantial private donations to supplement the amount, this would be a better arrangement for the Park than handing it over to the Borough Counoil. He would, therefore, move that if the Town Lands Trustees do not care to take over the Park, they be asked to grant the Park Trust fafty pounds a year for improvements.'
Mr Renall asked if they thought that the revenue from a grand if ereoted, would pay interest on a loan, The Chairman said be was opposed to any loan at all.
Mr Boddirfgton asked it the Town Lands Trust were prepared to give theamount suggested. The Chairman said ho understood that the Trustees were prepared to give some subsidy, but had not decided on the amount,
Mr Eenall said he believed thiß was the position.
The Chairman said be should like to see £IOO a year spent on permanent improvements to the Park, and be thought if the Town Lands Trustees could gee their way to grant iSO per annum the Park Trust might raise the other £SO. Mr Boddington said, personally, if the Town Lands Trust would not take over the Park he should like to see the Borough Council have the " honor and glory "of the thing. Mr Moore said he should be pleased to second the- resolution if he was sure that they were notb(£Nflf their pledge re not asking the Trust' for a further grant, ' ■ The-Ohairman explained that the term had expired onMaroh 31st. .. Mr Fei , Bt Bai(1 sympathised with tbe resolution, but as a memborA the Town Lands Trust., he did not second the motion. Hu was not in favor of handing the Park Trust over to anybody, as he did not see any B°°d so doing. Had it been shown that by reducing tbe number oE local bodies any good could have been attained, he should have been Willing to hand tbe Park over to the Council.
, Mr asked what thefirat improvement would probably bp. The Town Lands Trustees ivould want tq know before makioi< any grant. •fhfl WripD said he tliorght a grandstand, and wsb willing to add to hia. resolution that the '< first implement contemplated was tie erection of a grandstand." ■ '»•.
