WAIRARAPA AMATEUR ATHLETIC AND CYCLING CLUB.

Annual Sports, Sub-Captain—A. Casetberg; Hon. urer—Edgar 0. Eton ; Hon. Secretary— W. Jeffries; Assistant Secretary—D, Caselbcig J Management Committee— Messrs C. Perry, D'Arcy, 6. J. Wallace, G. H, Astall, and l.Casclbcrg; StarterMr Fred Lewis j Time keepers-Messrs H. E.Eton, Handeraon it Dougnl ;|landicappors—Messrs Muirand O'Connbr. It would be difficult to find a prottiet little ground than the Mas* terton Pari; for an athletic meeting, and the Wairarapa Amateur Atbleiio and Cyoling Club—more fortunate than the Caledonians-wore favoured witb a beautiful day for their third annual spurts meeting, which was held yeßtppiay afternoon. There were a large number of spectators, and amongst them a considerable proportion of small boys, who, if they all paid for their admission, ehou'd materially assist the funds of the Club, Mr W. Wight Smith, at the board where the results of the different events were promptly posted, did bis remarkably well, and the public jjnab|ed to Bee at a glance the positicfftf' affairs. All the officers and committeemen were kept busy, but, as ie generally the case when ofllcera are also competitors, a few

delays occurred. If a suggestion might be offered to the courteous and capable committee, it is, that two or more events should be competed for simultaneously. Throwing tho cricket ball, long jump, walking race, and liigb jump, might all have been going on at the same time without inteifer* ing with competitors, and such a plan would have saved valuable timo, The Eer Father McKenna, Dr Buteroent, and the Secretary, (Mr Wm. Jeffries) were indefatigable in carrying out their arduous duties. In the races there were no records, but they were well up to the avorage, and some excellent finishes were seen, 6. H. Astall waa very successful as a winner, and A, E. D'Arcy won both evonts in which he competed, Some of tbe entries were poor, notably for the bicycle races. This is to be regretted, for, by the general public they are considered the most exciting. The race for which Mr Norton kindly ngggtetU medal was worthy of the winning on the PPfDutiog the afternoon several selections were played by Pearson's •Band, which added to the pleasure of a thoroughly sueoessful meeting.
