Last season the Club was unfortu* uately • unsuccessful in the Banner competition, finishing seoood. Congratulations wore offered to the Stars for their wrll-eained victory. It was decided to open the season on April 7th with a fanoy costume match on the Worksop road ground, After dome disoussion it was finally decided that the oaptain and vice captain should ohoosa the teams for the opening match; On the moHoaof the Chairman, Mr - Whatman, a hearty vote of thanks ' was nccoided to Mr G. H. Perry for the tnergetw and able manner in which he has conducted the affiiirs of the Club. The usual compliment to the Chairman brought the meeting to a close.
A meeting of the management and; social Committees of ■ths.Ked'.Star Football Club was held ,on Sntur. day' night. T> business being to ascertain the names of those members who are desiioos of going pa a tour to Wellinaton and Nelson, 'on the 24th of May. About 20 members" ('signified their wiUingpe&sto go. The names are to be submitted to the selection committee, The teamwill probably play the Nelson olub at Wellingto.n,and the Nelson and Prince Albert Ol.ubs at Nelson, It is to; he hoped that the club will be buoccbbM iu getting away a first-rate team j in fact they Bhould bo b the very b'tel of form, as we had some good examples shown us last season of the uselessness. of sending away teams that had no combination. The Stars should therefore lose no time in getting into practise.'-.
The social and dauce in oonneotion ; with the Star to be '':'■■■ held in the Drill Hall bn the 29th of :v----this month, should prove as'great : a "?■ success as all the previous entertain- ~.■:' ments ofthis dobhave;been.. The.• C programme wijr comprise dancing,. "'• interspersed with,Bingingj violin ;»'■ solos, trombone solos, recitationsy etc., I and as good a number of local aoia- 1 tours have promised-|o contribute ' \ musical selections, and an excellent ladies' committee has been 'appointed, therewill be nothing wanting /■■■ to make the affair a thorough success.
The Petona Football Glub mast' have started training about the middle of summer, A ohallenge was received from by the Rod Stars to play a ' V match at Easier, The PetonoOJub must mean business. The Mestertori and Star Oluba might take this as an ' example, as they are generally rather late in getting into trim,
The Star Club will be quite aa strong in the forward division as it was last year, but it will be weaker in the backs, as for as is known at present. DeJoux is the only threequarter visible at presented Hansen half-back for the first fifteen, not forgetting Harry Wrigley the.invaiiable full-back. However, it is quite possible that someone will come along and fill up the vacancies, The second fifteen are more fortunate than the senior?, as not only hove they the same, excellent team of last season, but a large number of promising young players from outside have also ,J joined them, so that if the seniors are,' % pushed for players they will be able, ! to I'eoruit their ranks, for, judging by last season's play, the seoonrl have"..-', footballers ol no mean skill.
It is to be hoped tlio Ma^tortonV Club will be able to put a second fifteen in tbe field this season, The year before'last they won the junior : Cup, and strange to say, last season', they were unable to get a team together. However, I hops they will . have better luck thia season, as it makes football muoh more interest-'-'■'■ ing when two ■ pete for the Cup. " .The Ifastertoh senior fifteen will be: able to put a first rata team in the ■?■ field, in foot, superior to any for the V past few years, 'and I believe thel :y dtfeat of last year has had the effect of ; patting more spirit into the.raembera ■'' of tbe Club, and I feel convinced they ■;■ will du.;. their utmost to show/their// superiority. Most of their" old players s ■'. are coming out again, besides several '; now ones, one or two are knowd to ', be good' footballets-leavfng" alone/ reputation, which counts for nothing. However, football enthusiastsv;will- h not have long to wait ere they ; caa • ■ i iudge for themselves. '■■/'. "':-. ' j;i I am glad '■ to notice the Olub have decided upon" r, for. the senior cup, .■ They- ishotfeil.il I themselves last season to u p-1 to.Gretfifteen form.
