PAHIATUA NOTES.
(From Oar Own Correspondent,) A small three roomed cottage situated in the suburbs of Pahiiitua was completely destroyed by tiro early on Saturday morning, ic was unoccupied and insured for £25 and owned by Mr J. Sterling. It was rented, the tenant arranging to go in on Monday morning. The doors and windows were thoroughly Becure, and the origin of the fire is a complete mystery. A fine serviceable rain fell here, lasting all Sunday, Pastures will be much benefitted thereby. The latest scheme to emanate from tho Borough Council re tho bridge over the MangHtainoko is to divert the river, rat off tho bend and give her a straight course on the Western ide, the bridge to be of four spans of SO feet each, and substantial aproaches on either side, By this sbeme it is estimated that several tindred pounds will be saved.
