CARTERTON RIFLE CLUB.

Opening Day.

Carterton, Maroh 9th

Glorious weather was expenenoed for the opening day of the Biflo Club, yesterday. The President, Mr W. 0. Buchanan, M.H.R., gave- a brief address, with a little friendly advice to the members to praotice well, i He introduced Miss Bunny, daughter of Mr fl. B. Bunny, : vice-Preßident of the club and one'of the oldest settlers in the distriot. After the company had been grouped and photographed by Mr T. E. Price, the first fibot was fired by Miss Bunny. A bull's eyo was recorded at 200 yds, and three hearty cheers were given the young lady. The match then commenced, Married v. Single, 5 shots' at 200,800 and 500 yards. The 800 yards range had to be 'abandoned for for want of time. The signal tocease firing was given before all competitors had finished at 500 yards, the top I scoters'being H. B. Tucker (Garter* ton) for the married and T. Brown (Taueru) for the single men. There was, a liberal supply of refreshments for the 150 people present, : and the kindness of the Committee in making such ample provision was fully appreciated. '

Mr P. H. Wood's yards were almost deserted yesterday,, owing to the lialf holiday and the opening of the Rifle Club at Parkvale. The auctioneer intimated he .should alter his day of meeting to Tuesday. |
