His Worship the Mayor, and ' Cra lumpton, Lnasby, Beard, Rea, Rogers, Udy, Fubian and MaMueter, The minntea having bßenread and l confirmed, correspondence was read. 1 It was resolved to give the execu- > tora ia Croßs'a Eatata £BO for a half > chain atrip to widen Pahatu road. Aq offer to supply road rollers and atone crushers was received froni Mr J. Muir, agent at Maaterton, and laid Gn tho table, the Council's funds not being to any purchase at present. The Bail way Depart meat wrote stating that the road to the statioc should receive attention, and the Public Works Department that the request for assistance to widen Kura—tawhiti Street was under considera- ] tion.The Gomailssioner of Crown Land* ' wrote, asting the Council to mark on , the. map the proponed site of the j Matarawa bridge, so that he might report upon the Crown .Lands in the . vicinity.—The Mayor and Crs Udy and Loasby were authorised to mark the site, and secure an estimate from ( Mr King as to the cost of the bridge. A suggestion that the footpaths should ba tarred, was referred to the Works Committee. . Sepaira to the main road wore agreed to, and some smtli tenders for worts Accepted. IJbe estimates for the coming year showed a balance of some jBIO over expenditure, and the Mayor congratulated the Council upoaitK prospects. The Ranger reported himjelf as fit for duty. ■ Or Rogers' motion that the rates should be paid in two inntalments to the clerkin3tead o! lo tho rate collector was lost, an amendment .being carried that the rules bo p*id in two ittatal« raents, but to the collector as usuxl. A general rate of Is in the £ and a library rate of Id in thoiE w<*ro utruok, payable in two equal instalmftCtH in April and September. A return was ordered to be prepared on the motion of Cr Loasby of the amount of money paid on behali of the Library in booku, lighting and attendance, also what proportion of the clerk's salary is charged to the Library, ana the number of subscribers at 5s and 10s per annum, and the amotnfc in arrears. A votp of thanks was passed to the Mayor and Cr Udj for going to town to interview the Minister re the Aiatarawa Bridge, and the Borough Treasurer was authorised to refund them their expenses, jTha Mayor and Cr Udy thanked tho Council, and declined their ex j peiises. ' Tbe Council then adjourned.
