TAUERU NOTES.

(From Our Uwn.Correspondent,) Beyond routine work so little is now going on in the Taueru that it is difficult indeed for "your own" to find anything of interest to write about. In common with the rest of the districts round[about, we have been enjoying lovely weather lately, only marred by the smoke coming from the bush fires, but that has been nothing like so bad as in previous yeais. Good burns seem difficult to get, owing it is said to the continued rains keeping the undergrowth green. Sheep have been continually pass* iug along, on their way to Petone and Ngakauranga. It makes one wonder what New Zealand would be without its sheep, though most of us round here havo to thank therabbits for more than the Bheep, Two or three members of the Rifle Club here intend trying their luck at the N, Z, Association's Meeting, and as they are men who did well on Anniversary day they nay repeat some of their performances. All our good wishes go with them, and may they bring back a good quota of the prize money, The Club itself is now in a rather sleepy condition, owing to want of ammunition. An order was sent to thj Defence Office for some, but (M cheque was politely returned vjfl sorrow that the store was supply the demand. I hear tliat Jlr E.
