THE SUICIDE MANIA.

Auckland, Tuesday. The House .Committee of the. Hospital presented their fortnightly' report to the Hospital Board yesterday. The first paragraph was asfollows :-« Suicidal oaaos.—The medical staff having repotted that certain patients had stated that they had conceived the idea of' euioide. from reading the accounts of attempted suicide published in. the daily papers, the Committee recommend the Board to call the atten* {ion of the press to the unduo publicity given to such the fact ibat euob publication, tonds to prompt others to the commission of some crime; and to suggfjjt.to the press that no detailed reporW euoh cases bo given.' 1 After a generaldiscussion.'amotiori for the adoption of this clause of the re port was lost, the majority of the members being of opinion that they would only bring ridicule on themselves if they passed tho resolution or attempted tocontrol the press. Mr Ambury, thereupon moved that; facta be laid before the Minister of Justice. It wbb poly out of oourtesjr;-; to the press that the Cpmroittoe first decided to pall |ts attention to the' subject, the first intention having'been to call the attention of tho Min- ; ister of Justice to the rnattor. The Chairman ruled that as this should have been an amendment it could not be' received now, as the clause of the report was expunged, . Tiiuru, Tuesday. William Stevenson commuted suicide yesterday by hangiug llilfoelf in a stable near Pleasant Point.
