GREYTOWN NOTES.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) The Rev. Mr fjrewes, phrenologist, eleotrio experimenter, and street preacher, was to have given a lecture at the Firo Brigade Station here last' night. When the hour arrived when thi) good folks of Greyiown were to be electrified, the Rev,gontleman was in Wel'ington, having left by the after noen train, having other business there of more importance. He left word that be would give hislectute at some future date. The Greytown sohool picnio taka place on Thursday next. There ore over twenty pounds oollected for it, and tarts and buns will therefore be in remarkably plentiful supply. Moßt of the parents object to their children being taken out of town, so the games will be held in O'ConnorVßtish. 1 A suddon glare in th 9 north end of ' the town last night caused a fear thai a house occupied by Mr A. R. Hornblow was ablaze, The alarm was j groundless, however, as it was only some broom let on lire by the genu» snail buy. Dr Hanratty, who is confined to the j Hospital by an injured leg, caused i>y j a recent scnfllu in a Featherstuu 1 public house, bhvs that he intends ] olsiming heavy damages through the ] Courts from the man whom he ] alleges., inflicted thu injuries upon | him, I Tlu ffairarapajjeleotoral toll is, I hoar, being re-printed for tho forthcoming licensing poll and election of | Committee, There will probably be several Greytown candidates for a teat on the latter. The Greytown Borough Counoil is I seriously thinking of going in for a stone-crushing machine if any neighbouring local body will join it, There are pleniy of boulders in the Waira rapa to craok up into the very best of metal, and roads made of this material would save the cost over and over again of a stone-orusher. At presertt the main road from Greytown to Tauherenikau is simply disgraceful, and the Cou.ity should remonstrate with tho Goad Board about it,
