THE STRASBURG CLOCK.
j A large number of people visited a the model'of the wonderful Strasbnrg clook at the Theatre Royal last night 0 The story attaching to the clock is eo j interesting, that, even apart from the roinarkablo mechanism of it, everyone 1 who possibly can, should .take' this j opportunity of seeing the model of a treasure so jealously guarded by the poople of Strasburg. Taking the model itself, perhaps the most interesting part is (ho fourth section, or superstructure, which represents a chapel of Gothic architecture, surmounted by elegant flying buttresses ' and open spires, enriched by gilded I crockets and trefoil ornaments, The , clook strikes in this manner:' every quarter of an hour the oheru'u on the left of the dial strikes a warning note on the bell, then the figure representing the quarter completed moves ' slowly off through the door on the ' right as the quarter is struck on the hell in front of the cherub ' holding the sand glass reverses it, the ' dnor on (hi left opens, and the figure j representing the next quarter steps forward and takes his position; should ' it be the hour Death strikes the oum--1 ber on the large bell—a burst of roueio 'is now heard, the door in the right portico of the ohapel opens, and 1 the Apostles appear in procession. As they advance tho angels of Life and Death simultaneously turn towards them. Meanwhile tho contre doors gradually open, and the Saviour advances to the edge of the platform holding the banner of Redemption. As the Apostles approach, each turns and bows lowly to the Saviour who blesses them. As Peter appioaches Satan appears, and by his motions seems to tempt Peter, who alone dot's not bow, but turns his back in denial upon his Lord, then the cock- on the weight tower flips his wings, and crows in memory of Peter's temptation. Then Satan again appears, and with eager eyea watches Judas, following him stealthily along the balcony till the door closes upon him and the bell, which has tolled one for each Apostle, now gives the signal that the procession is over. Mr Jameson, the proprietor, explains everything in .connection'with the clock most fully, and at intervals music is given by an automatiepiano. We must not forget to mention that every visitor receives some useful article as a gift. The model will be shown every afternoon and evening for the next eight days.
