The annual meeting of tho Manchester Unity, 1.0.0, P., was held in the Loyal Rose of tho Valley lodgerooms, Lower Hutt, on Thursday and Friday last, Tho Mowing delegates wore present !—Britannia Lodge, P.P.G.W.'b Waters and Godber and P.G.'s, Jot' dan, Munro and Riddick; Antipodean .■» . Oawton and Routley, and • Secretary Hall; Kainapoura Lodge, Secretary Greer; Rose of Sharon Lodge, P.G.'s, M'Culloch and Robinsonj St. Georgo Lodge, P.G. Death j Unity Lodge, P.G, Benton; Master* ton Lodge, P.G. Jesson; Heart of ■ AfcOakL(idge, J.T. Manning j Graytown .WWjP I ; G.ill. Loasby; Petone B Eodge, Tffl.'fl. Sflfr Johnson, and the Deputy G.M, P.G. Alothes, were in the chair; and the Prov, See., P.G.Korshaw, having oalled the roll, m«s^ | 'Grand Maßtei read hia address. the jubilee celebration bad passed off satisfactorily. The Manchester Unity**fw one of the largest Friendly Societies in the world. As one of England's greatest statesmen had said, "it ia a mighty power in the Empire in furthering the thrift oi eelf-indopendence on its people, it loads our Parliament on these questions, and it does not require the interference of Government." At tho end of 1892 the capital of the Unity was £7,814,042, and the membership 700,403, a net increase of 13,716; while £3OOO per day were paid away ■ for sickness and burials. The A,M,C. had resolved on admitting females, Referring to tho Wellington District, he said the order had a capital of £24,476, and a membership of 1180, being an increase of £5lO and 23 respectively. The business of the meeting was then proceeded with, the principal subjeot being the consideration of new modellodge by-laws.
After the first day's labour, the delegates wore invited to a dinner provided by the Bose of the Valley Lodge. Tho caterer was Bro M'Kain, After disposing of the good things provided/-tie usual loyal and fraternal toasta wore given, interspersed with singing, the selections including a local sons by Secretary F. Greer, on the Bro T, to, Wilford accompanying on the piano. The delegates re-assembled on tho Oth at 9.45 a.m., and sat until 8.30 p.m. during which time they disposed of the business of the new lodge by-laws, and tho officers were installed by P.P.S.M. Brown in his usual happy style. The minutes were then read and confirmed (the. usual practico in this Order at the olose of tho meeting), and the meeting was declared closed. > The next meetingistobe held in the l Unity Lodge, Featherston, on the 2nd February, 1895, at 11 o'clook a.m. ' During the session fraternal greet- . ings were sent to and received from the Nelson District delegates, who happened to hold their annual meeting at the same time.—Post,
