CRICKET.

MASTERTON v. WHAREAMA.

A orioket matoh was played at Tenui od Saturday between teams representing Mastodon and Wliareama, the ground being kindly lent by Mr Maunsell, • Tito visiters started from Masterton at an early hour, arriving at Tenui shortly before eleven a.m. Flay was oommenoed at noon, the wicket being in gooil ordor, Mr A, Elder captaining the Wliareama team, and Mr E. M. D. Whatman, Mastorton. The toss was won by Whareama who put Masterton in. A scots of 79 was put up, Webb, 0. Perry, Whatman, and Hansen, reaohing double figures. Joplin was the most successful bowler for the Whareama team. Whareama followed Masterton and managed to put up exactly ths sumo score as the visitors, tho last wicket fnllin" at 79, Johnston, Austin and Stewart batting well* M astertnn's second innings started badly, the first five wickets falling for 18 runs. Whatman and Perry then got together and added 45 to (he total beforo separating, tho innings closing for 78. Whareama in the second innings made 45 for eight wickets. The fielding of both teams wns excellent, and the wioket-keeping of N. Owen particularly brilliant. Hansen bowled splendidly for Masterton, tak • ing nearly all the wickets. Joplin and Johnston were the best bowlers for Whareama. The Masterton men speak very highly of the hnspiliiblo treatment they received, and tiio trip was much enjoyed by the whole of the team.
