TENUI NOTES.
(From Our Own Correspondent.)
On Haturday last our " knigfitsof the willow" journeyed to Wbakataki to try conclusions with (bat township. Only eight turned up for Tenui, and nine for Whakatabi, bo tbe true merits of the teams could not bo ascertained. However, a good game was enjoyed, so far as the hurricane would let players enjoy it, It was very laughable, at times, to see tbe freaks tbe ball indulged io, Sometimes tbo wind would stop it in mid air, and after poising there for some seconds, the leather would tantalisingly recede from tbe would-be-cafcher, and the batsman would be saved. The visitors were hospitably entertained by their opponents at the Wbakataki Hotel, where Host Stewart had provided a substantial spread. Wbakataki piled on 73 runs in the first innings, and 54 in the second, whilst Tenui only made 48 and 42 runs, Powys 80, Tully 10, and Green 11, were the highest scorers for Wbakataki, and Nicholls 13, Cameron 12, Manning 17, Owen 13, and Bticldos 10, were the highest for Tenui, In the first inningr, Joplin took five Wbakataki wickets at a small cost for Tenui, but was unfortunately unable to bowl in tbe second owing to a strain in his side, Tully bowled well for tbe winners, but he should endeavour to bowl a better length, as short pitched balls are likely to hurt a batsman on a bad wicket. W. Owen should make an excellent bat in time, as he played the Wkaktaki bowling on Saturday with the utmost confidence. Vennel kept the wickets in fine style,
The wind blew so violently on Friday night at Whakataki that it blew the school weather-sbed down, and turned it over in an adjoining paddock,
