TARATAHI-CARTERTON ROAD BOARD.

The minutes of the previous meeting were read and oonfirmed, c The Treasurer reported bank overdraft £118615s fid, A statement of liabilities of eaoh Ward was also read by m- clerk. Aconunis for tbe day's payments £240 Hsßd which includes interest on Government loans, were [presented. .••'■•

A long discussion ensued on the woys and means, as the winter is now approaching, and the roads in several of the Wards areiin a bad etato now, and in the wintajmonths they will be almost impa?sable. Tbe Wardens expressed the opinion is that unless the ratepayers will consent to a special rate being levied, there is no possibility of keeping the roads in decent repair, A long letter was received from Messrs Bkey and Co,, in reference to the proposed Bylaws, prohibiting traoliou engines uorossing the bridges, and suggesting that convenient fords be made at the bridges which were considered unsafo for the large traction engines to cross. After fully disousfing the matter the Wardens were unanimous in the opinion that they could not reoommend the County Council to alter the By-laws as previously passed.

Mr Kerrina waited on the Board in reference to the Board taking over the road on the East Coast so that it can be properly opened for traffic, Mr Kerrins was requested to see the Engineer and get him to pass the work before the Board could take over the road,

Mr Peller was empowered to expend the buo) of £8 having a track opened round the Education Reserve, under the supervision of the Overseer of roads.
