The temporary Be|tlem|nt of the Railway Commissioner difficulty is a reasonable one. The Government were bound to alter the colour of the Board in the interests of their party as far as they could without prejudice to the interests of the Colony. The retention of Mr McKerrow shows that they have 6ome regard for the latter, the incubation of Messrs Ronayue and Scott for a period of nine months is a vindication of party privilege, and may, or may not, be attended with good results, When the nine months are up the publio Vvill be able to form an opinion as to whether Messrs Ronayho and Sqott are .more profitable Commissioners than Messrs Maxwell and Hanriay or whether the scliemo. miscarries. We would have liked to have seen one Commissionership go to a North Island man, but the present ;s a Middle.'lsland ministry,' and all tho rich oake seems to travel south. Mr Reeves seems to have compromised Ministers by communicating the result of the Cabinet ■'deliberations over the matter in one. quarter, and withholding it in another, but possibly divisions in tho Cabinet acoount for bis peculiar line o! action, ■
