Colonial Treasurer Ward receives a sovere rebuff in the message from London, m That the Bankers oansider tlie scheme of the N.s. Goveroment to guarantee the mortgage loans of farmers highly injurious, and beyond the province of the Government." Of course as far as the political aspect of the question goes Mr Ward must be right, as it is impossible for any statesman in the wide,' wide world to knoir as rauoh as lie does, but the financial aspect of it is serious. There is the credit of the Colony being damaged in London at a time when the wolf is almost at our door and accomodation is badly needed. It is coming to be recognised that the Colony niustbave borrowed money in some shape or form, and. here we find those eminent statesmen Messrs Beddon and Ward frightening with wjld pat projects the very men upon whom opr prosperity depends.
