RESIGNATION OF THE BISHOP OF WAIPU.

Napier, September 26, Tho Synod of the Dioces* of Waipu, which met to-diy, had a great surprise uprung upon it by the intima> tion,nt tho close of the bishop's opening address, that lie intended to resign and proved as a missionary post n northern ludiaonder the Church Missionary Society, but he had to leave India on account of his health, His sojourn of sixteen years in New Zealand, had, he said, benefited him 80 much that, in spite of added years, he was able to undergo a considerable amount of fatigue, and lie felt it his duty to return to the missionary field. Men were urgently needed ir. Persia, and, an he had considerable knowledge of the people there and their lar gunge, he had offered his services in that field, and the Missionary Society had accepted them. He felt very deep regret ar leaving Now Zealand, where he had so many warm friends, and nothing but an imperative sense of duty would have caused him to take this Step.
