CONCERT AT MAURICEVILLE.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) 7' A most, successful concert was held ; at Mauriceville on Friday night..last U in aid of Mr Marshblade, who, it will :. be remembered, met with.a most ;s distressing accident some time since, , through the upsetting of his. trap on; ! ' the road between here and Masterton,;£ in which he sustained injuries whioh.y ; ;i it is feared will incapacitate him from':• ; work for an indefinite period. :•'; The concert, whioh was splendidly : ( \ patronised, the evening being beauti-' fully fine, consisted of I tions, oto, was a affair, and reflects tn&riglpt ore| ■' on those ladies and gentlemenwfe/;i> so nobly and diligently gave, tb,'?'i time and attention to the arran||V niunts, as well as to those who wJ;L. part in the performance and tho audience with theireßorts. ["if . . The singing as a whole was <&:■:/. class, and the applause was freqijK';'; and hearty. One item deserves [.' mention, Miss Maggie McKenl : ?\ child of tender years, fairly eleL. v ; ■ ing the audience by her rendering of jfe "Maggie Murphy's Home." The[f reoitmions were also very gbod,[| notably one given by Miss Jessie p Hansen', entitled "Ready to be Mar-|| ned," which, for a mere child, wasfe? delivered with a serio-com'io gravity m whioh fetched theaudienco iminenselyyp The net result of t!jß concert was " 1 i the handsome sum of fifteen pounds,.' and.when the expenses (wbich are'-.:.:-. very trifling, as everybody gave their :0 ■ services free) will be handed over to : f Mr Marshblade, who has already... expressed himself as deeply grateful to. . : the people of Mauriceville for their ■' kindness to him in his affliotion. Miss Mary MoKenzte presided at the piano (her own piano by the way, >■, " which she kindly lent for the occasion) ..; ; : and played the acoorAnimehts in ,' her usual brilliant muflfer, During;'; 'the evening,Mr J, McKenzie,headmaster of tho Mauriceville West Sohool, attended with his violin, and ■:.: i. father and daughter discoursed some excellent music, which was much' 1 ';,; appreciated. , ,; : Refreshments were provided on a ;V, most liberal scale, and after the con-' ' cert the usual appsndag9 in the shape of a dance followed as amntter of " course, and was indulged in until the ; C small hours.
