PAHIATUA NOTES.
(From Our Own Correspondent),
Much comment is made and indignation expressed at the action of the North Wairarapn County Council with reference to the portion of the road between Eketahuna and Pahiatua, in refusing to keep it in good order. That portion of ihe road has always been in a very bad condition and a source of danger to tho travelling public,
Qreen linnets are proving a great nuisance to orchardists in this district, every evening they are busy at the buds on the apple trees which they peck out and devour, It is a pity the Acclimatization Society does not exercise more judgment in importing birds and animals likely to become pests, probably their next importation j will be snakes.
The weather for the past few dnys has much improved, which will honefit grass stock and ihe district generally, We escaped the galjs and rain predicted by Captain Edwin, for the 21st; however, we are quite content fishing season opened very quietly here; very few disciples of; Isaac Walton turningout; the weather being inclement and rivers high, was discouraging. In Woodville, I bear, a few fine fish were landed.
